Ships and Canons and Fandoms: Oh My!

Over the past few years, there have been many, many, ships created by fans of tv shows, books, animes, and music. In this article, I’m going to be examining three different ships and comparing them to figure out which of the three is the most canon (real in the series they belong to).
For all those not ‘in the know’, a ship is two people that a fandom believe should be together, regardless of current relationship status, gender, sexual orientation, or sometimes even where they live. For example, some fans like to ship characters from different tv shows or movies. A prime specimen of this is the Jelsa ship, which is comprised of Jack Frost from The Rise Of The Guardians and Elsa from Frozen. Also, there are some (very small) ships that involve people and objects, such as Brason, which is Jason Grace from The Heroes of Olympus series and a brick that hit him in the head during the third book. There are ships in every fandom, and everyone has at least one, no matter what age or social class. But, the number one rule of shipping is simply to respect everyone’s ships and not to judge, even if it doesn’t make sense to you.

So back to my three ships and comparing them. The first one is Spamano. This ship originated in APH Hetalia (the anime) when Spain became the boss of a young Romano, who represents the southern half of Italy. Since then, we know that Spain and Romano have spent very much time together, though Romano has always seemed to hate Spain. However, it has been speculated that Romano has an inferiority and abandonment complex, due to his brother Veneziano (northern Italy) being generally more loved by everyone, and his grandfather Rome leaving Romano and taking Veneziano with him when left. So, it has been theorized that Romano truly does love Spain, but has difficulty showing it because of his hard childhood, when he was caught in many wars. In the series, this ship is almost completely canon, meaning that it is almost acknowledged in the show as being real. I rate it as a 9/.510 for being real and how good it is. (Small side note: I gave it a .5 because the creator of the anime and manga has confirmed that they love each other, and Spain once asked Romano to marry him in the manga. So, I believe that the ship is almost canon, but not entirely becaus it isn’t really canon on the anime.)

The next ship that I’ll discuss is Destiel. (Notice the picture to the side, which is an actual screenshot taken from an actual episode in the show) This is one of the most famous ships in the world, and it is the number one ship for 99.99% of the Supernatural fandom. This ship involves Dean Winchester (a hunter on the show) and Castiel Novak (an angel of the Lord) who are quite clearly, in my opinion, in love. From the first episode where they met, they have stared into each other eyes for more than fifteen seconds at least ten times, and there was one occasion where they stared for approximately 30 seconds as the camera slowly panned away. Also, there are the constant issues with personal space, which neither of them seem to have with any other people. Furthermore, it’s almost sickeningly cute how Castiel is always calling Sam, Dean’s brother, and worrying about Dean when they are separated. So, because of the obvious love these two show for each other and their way of acting even more coupley than my parents, who go on dates every Thursday, I rate this ship as 9/10. Then again, the only reason it isn’t 10/10 is because it hasn’t actually been completely acknowledged as real yet.

My third and final ship is Stucky. This ship is from the Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The two people in this lovely ship are Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers, and The Winter Soldier, also known as Bucky Barnes. Now, a little bit of backstory: Bucky and Steve are from the time around WW2 (the 40s) and they’ve lived together for the majority of their lives. They are best friends and spend much more time together than some parents. Bucky enlisted in the army during the war, but Steve is unable due to his sickly self. Then, Steve get chosen for a project that uses a super-serum and that turned him into a super-soldier. Steve and Bucky meet up again and, along with the rest of their group (the Howling Commandos) they fight Nazis in Germany and defeat an evil HYDRA (division of the Nazis) agent. But, after this operation, while they are on a train fighting some more Nazis, Bucky falls off an tumbles down a mountain. I”ll end the backstory here, but these two go through a bunch more during the Winter Soldier movie, but that would take another paragraph. Now, this ship is incredibly real for me and many others, because these two spend so much time together and are always making not-very-hetero comments that seem like something that soulmates would say to each other. (Example: “I’m with ya till the end of the line.”) Kinda adorable and loving, don’t you think? So, overall, this ship gets a 9.5/10.
Now, to compare. Spamano and Stucky both got 9.5/10, and Destiel got a 9/10. In my opinion, they are the three best ships in any fandom, so I’m not really the best suited to compare them. I guess that I’ll just have to make it a three-way tie, nevermind that Destiel got .5 less than the other two. Hopefully, this article will persuade you to watch some of the shows/movies/animes listed here, so that you too can discover the marvel of ships, if you haven’t already.
